[Important notes and requests for ensuring your shoes stay comfortable for a long time]

Thank you for your continued patronage of CALMANTHOLOGY.

Here, we will explain the precautions and requests regarding wearing CALMANTHOLOGY shoes.
I would be delighted if you would take the time to read it.

First, let me explain how to break in your shoes.

When you wear the shoes for the first time after purchase, we recommend that you perform pre-maintenance beforehand.
*All items purchased online have undergone pre-maintenance.

Pre-maintenance refers to shoe care that adjusts the moisture and oil content of the leather before wearing the shoes for the first time. This care not only improves comfort but also makes the leather more flexible, allowing creases to form in the right places, among other benefits.

If you find it difficult to care for your pet yourself, we offer a paid service at our studio, so please feel free to contact us.

Also, when you first wear them, please wear them with the leather soles as they are, and refrain from attaching the half-rubber soles for a certain period of time.
*This does not apply to shoes that originally have rubber soles.

Many CALMANTHOLOGY shoes are made using the "Goodyear welt construction" method, so the outsole is stiff when you first start wearing them, and it takes several months for it to become flexible (the outsole to bend properly).
Therefore, if you apply a half-rubber sole before the outsole has developed its flexibility, the rubber and adhesive may make the outsole even harder, potentially making it more difficult to achieve flexibility.
Please be careful, as this could potentially cause injury.
Some of our shoes are made using the "McKay construction" method, and similarly, we recommend wearing them for a short period of time before having half-rubber soles attached.

Next, we will explain some important points and requests regarding the use of the product.

Leather shoes are meant to be worn for a long time, but in addition to daily care, they require regular repairs.

One of these services is "full sole replacement."

If holes appear in the outsole, or if it cracks or breaks, the entire outsole will need to be replaced.
Both Goodyear welted and McKay welted shoes can be resoled, but depending on the condition and model, repair may not be possible. Please contact us for details.

Replacing the entire sole can be expensive, and there are limits to how many times it can be replaced. Therefore, by using and repeatedly replacing half-rubber soles, you can reduce the number of times you need to replace the entire sole and enjoy your shoes for a longer period of time.

Next, let's talk about "top lift replacement and heel replacement."

Many of CALMANTHOLOGY's dress shoes feature a structure in which a special cushioning material is sandwiched on top of the top lift (the rubber layer at the very bottom of the heel).
*This feature may not be available on all models; please contact us for details.

Because this cushioning material is not handled by typical shoe repair shops, if the heel wears down to this layer, it will require a heel replacement rather than just a top lift replacement, resulting in a higher repair cost. Therefore, by having the top lift replaced before it reaches this layer, you can reduce the repair cost and also reduce the stress on your shoes, allowing you to enjoy them for a longer time.

We can replace heels at our factory, but please have the top lifts replaced at your local shoe repair shop.

Finally, let me explain "toe steel."

Many CALMANTHOLOGY shoes are fitted with brass toe steel, which stabilizes the ball of the foot (contact point) which varies from person to person, and also protects the toe area from wear until the outsole flexes.
Because it is made of brass, which is prone to wear, the toe steel may naturally come off after wearing the shoes for a long time, but this is proof that it has already fulfilled its role as a toe steel.
In some cases, the screw portion may remain embedded in the outsole. However, we offer removal and hole filling services at our atelier, so please feel free to contact us.

Furthermore, even after the half-rubber sole has been applied or has come off naturally, it can be reattached as part of the design. Please feel free to contact us if you wish to do so.
